Uncharted territory for the Imps.

Surely it’s no coincidence that Lincoln City have called an impromptu fans forum for this evening when the talk all week has been of City’s managerial appointment. The Echo is convinced its Danny Cowley formerly of Braintree. I say formerly as Cowley and his assistant manager brother stepped down from Braintree last night.

My only worry is that Cowley has been telling anyone who cares to listen he’s had other offers and Notts County in particular are without a manager. I wouldn’t put anything past them.

However, let’s assume the Echo is right and Cowley is our new manager this is a complete departure for us. This is not a slight against the present board of directors, City have appointed managers from either the unemployed, in house or frankly taking a punt on a known name with no experience but within months of our substantial investor Clive Nates coming on board City have swooped for a young, up and coming manager with a proven track record in getting promotions, although as we know he is presently licking his wounds having lost out at the semi final stage this season to the Mariners. No matter, he’s enjoyed plenty of success and, if the conjecture is true, we’ve got him.

Braintree’s chairman questioned whether City were much of a hitch up stating Braintree are as big a club. Well he would say that wouldn’t he? Look at the gates, look at the stadium, look at the history. (No, on second thoughts don’t look at the history.) Presumably Danny Cowley has done just that.

I await confirmation but in the meantime bask in the enjoyable knowledge that, at long last City are behaving like a big fish in a small pond.
